Two Crusader Band members won positions in the Kansas Music Educators Association South Central District Honor Band. They are Marisa Black and Alex Hardin. They both had to go through a very competitive and rigorous audition process that they had been preparing for since the beginning of the school year. The Honor Band rehearsed and presented a concert at Wichita East High School last Saturday. This band was composed of the very finest high school musicians in the south central part of Kansas By winning the audition process for the district band, they are qualified to audition for the State Honor Band to be held in February. This is a very high honor. Proud of these Crusaders!!

The WHS Leadership class and The Lions Club are joining forces this holiday season to bring the high school and community Operation Holiday. Operation Holiday is adopting families in the community for the Christmas season to bring them presents and joy for the holidays.
Both WMS and WHS "Circle of Friends" converged on the WHS Commons area Friday afternoon for 2 hours of comradery, fun and friendship. Numerous games were played including a scavenger hunt - it was a large gathering overall with lots of smiles to go-round! For those that might not know, "Circle of Friends" is an innovative mentoring program matching Special Education students with regular education peers.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING from many of your area schools! The WMS Leadership Group dropped off "3" truckloads of food and $590 cash Monday morning at the Wellington Food Bank! Eisenhower contributed over 2,200 canned items and the WHS Leadership Group - over 1,300 lbs of food!
More to come for Christmas - stay tuned!!
The students at WHS have been "CANNING THEIR TEACHERS" this week, in the hopes of bringing enough food items to class to physically "cover the door up to the handle" by this morning so they could have a free day today in that class. Haven't gotten the official tally yet from WHS STUCO who sponsors this annual event but all the food was then going to be taken downtown to the food bank...way to go Crusaders. Similar drives have gone on at other schools this week as well.
Here are members of the WHS CLAY TARGET TEAM proudly posing with their 2nd place conference trophy!

The FALL SPORTS ASSEMBLY was held Friday morning at the Wellington Middle School. Letters and Certificates were distributed to the Knight and Lady Knight student-athletes in the hour long program, honoring football, volleyball, cross country, girls tennis, scholars bowl, cheer and leadership groups for their participation and contribution to the many successes experienced by our young Knights, soon to be Crusaders. A stellar bunch with high hopes and bright futures. Congrats on a great start to the school year - continued good luck this Winter!! GO KNIGHTS / GO LADY KNIGHTS!!
CONGRATULATIONS COACH AUFDENGARTEN!
Each year the USTA (United States Tennis Association) Missouri Valley (Kansas District) announces award winners in a variety of categories honoring the best tennis players, events, coaches, volunteers and sportsmanship over the past year. On November 13th, at the Terradyne Country Club in Andover, WHS Head Girls Tennis Coach Brian Aufdengarten was awarded the MEDIA EXCELLENCE trophy for his work in setting up and maintaining a complete State of Kansas tennis website which features both girls and boys tennis, rankings, results and more. Coach Aufdengarten designed the site himself and it provides all the coaches in Kansas with the latest and greatest in tennis across the state. Congratulations to Coach Aufdengarten for this award. "Auftie" has coached tennis for nearly 20 years, 16 at the high school level, 3 at the middle school level. Way to represent Coach Aufdengarten!! We are proud of you!
